The Charleston Gazette – West Virginia News and Sports – Politics – Patients, clinics criticize proposed methadone tax .

More from West Virginia.

Unless they plan on taxing every pharmacy who dispenses methadone or Suboxone a dollar per dose, every doctor who writes a script for either of the meds and any hospital or care facility that medicates their patients with these medications–I don’t see how this can possibly be called anything but discriminatory!

I know that pharmacies make far more than a 28% profit from the drugs they dispense and I also know doctors make about the same from each patient they see…how come their way of helping people and earning an income is “acceptable” but methadone clinics are deplorable for earning a living?

I worked for seven years in outpatient alcohol and drug treatment. I earned a good living…and so did the counselors and owners of the facility. Should we have been working for free just because it’s substance abuse treatment? We were “non-profit” but it didn’t mean we didn’t earn a living or make money for the hospital we worked under! Or maybe we should we have just called ourselves “non-profit” and then took huge salaries, expensive non-tax land and properties and fringe benefits like so many non-profits do.

Maybe methadone clinics should just pretend that no one makes a dime helping other people, like so many non-profit organizations do.

I work for a living in a lab helping patients. I have friends who are counselors that earn a good living. I know many doctors, nurses, EMT’s and paramedics who make VERY GOOD LIVING’s helping the sick. Should they be taxed for each patient they see and help?

But the owners of methadone clinics, they do it for the money only, right? PUHLEEZE!
