Tax on Methadone Treatment Debated at Capitol

This is crazy!  Can you imagine putting a tax on ANY OTHER FORM OF MEDICAL TREATMENT OR MEDICATION?

We aren’t talking about cigarettes here!  We are talking about a medication many people use to get better!

And why no tax on the methadone people get from a pharmacy?

If the ACLU doesn’t step it up on this one, I give up on them!

Tax on Methadone Treatment Debated at Capitol.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia has one of the worst methadone problems in the country, but whether a tax on treatment using the drug will make any difference is up for debate.

The House of Delegates is holding a public hearing on a bill that would charge a $1 tax per daily dose of methadone at the state’s nine treatment centers. The measure is expected to raise $1.5 million annually.

Advocates say the money could go toward drug prevention and treatment.

But many of West Virginia’s methadone problems stem from the drug’s use as a painkiller, which is separate from their use in clinics for the treatment of addiction.

Opponents of the measure say it discriminates against people who seek treatment for drug addiction.

I am so horrified, dismayed and sad…there are no words.

This is like taxing any facility that treats smokers…but ONLY the facilities that use medications like ZYBAN or CHANTIX.

This one takes the cake. I have never been so disgusted by anything in my life.
