http://www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org/publications/enews/2008-12-23/change.php

Faces & Voices Of Recovery eNewsletter – December 24, 2008 – Please take a few moments during this busy time of the year to get involved in President-elect Obama’s transition team’s work. They are asking the American public for help to determine policies and priorities for the new Administration. This is an important opportunity for the recovery community to weight in and inform the transition team about recovery, the ongoing efforts of the recovery community to organize in communities across the country and the important difference that we are making.

Health Care Community Discussion: Sign up to lead a health care discussion before December 31st – at your home, Recovery Community Center, coffee shop or anywhere in your community. You can get a special moderator kit online. (To get this kit just click on the address I pasted at the top of this article. Once your at the website there will be directions about how to get the kit).

If you’ve organized other events over the next two weeks, you can add on this activity to those activities that are already planned. It can be very simple. The important thing is to register your event with the Transition Team so that President-elect Obama knows how many people in our country care about recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs and so that they can get your ideas and thoughts.

Here are some ideas that you can use to develop an agenda for your community discussion:

1. The Recovery Bill Of Rights. Use Faces & Voices Of Recovery’s Recovery Bill of Rights to discuss the policies that are necessary for more people to experience the reality of recovery.

2. Recovery Voices Count Questions for Candidates. Use Faces & Voices Candidates Pledge and 5 Questions to discuss important policy issues.

3. People in recovery and family members telling their recovery stories.

4. How recovery community organization is working to support recovery and how you are mobilizing citizens to address addiction and promote long-term recovery.

PLEASEADD THIS ACTIVITY ON TO ANY OTHER EVENTS THAT YOU HAVE PLANNED BETWEEN NOW AND THE END OF THE YEAR.
